Frequently Asked Questions
1. If a restaurant or business is listed on your site, does that mean the
staff there speaks fluent English?
Speaking fluent English is not a requirement for being included on our webpage.
Instead, restaurants and businesses listed on Enjoy Tsugaru are some of the select
few in the area that have made a concerted effort to accommodate non-Japanese speaking visitors
and residents of Aomori. This usually takes the form of English signage, order forms,
menus, etc. While these do not guarantee flawless communication, they certainly make
life easier for both the staff and the customer!

2. I see that the phone number for each business is located on your site.
If I call will someone be able to assist me?
While we do include the phone number for each business on our site for your reference,
it may be best to have a Japanese speaker call if the need arises. If no one in your group
speaks Japanese, it may be wise to visit the establishment directly instead of calling.

3. My friends and I want to go out and drink, but no one wants to drive.
What can we do?
Lucky for you, Japan has pioneered the daiko
taxi system. A daiko is essentially a taxi cab with two drivers,
one of whom drives your car home for you. No more having to chose a designated driver
or pick up the car the next day!

4. Why do some pubs and restaurants bring me an appetizer even though I
didn't order one?
Many drinking establishments in Japan give their customers an appetizer called
otoshi when they sit down or order something to drink.
The otoshi is similar to a table charge, and unfortunately in most cases it can not
be refused or removed from the bill. Instead, think of it as a way to try something you
otherwise may not have ordered!

6. Do you have plans to include information for other areas of Aomori?
We hope to expand our website in the near future to include not only other areas of Aomori,
but also other areas of Japan that currently suffer from a lack of information available in English.
Bear with us as we figure out the logistics, and we will expand as soon as we are able!

Eventually, we will have an area on each restaurant or businesses'
information page where users can add their input about what was good and
what could be better. Until then, send us your comments and we will include
them in the site and pass them on to the owner.
