Description:

This relay race was started in 1989 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the shipwreck and rescue of the Cheseborough. Hundreds of swimmers from all over Japan and the world compete in the competition each year, and their combined distance is added to the goal of swimming the 6,200 miles between Tsugaru and its sister city of Bath, Maine.

Getting There Follow Route 12 through Shariki and past The Flat. After you enter a section of rice paddies, a road will go off to your left at an intersection labeled with a sign for the Shariki Fishing Port. Turn left here and follow the road through the stop light and to the port. Magua Beach, the race location, is located on the far side of the fishing port.
