Description:
Originally created in the hopes of ridding the rice fields of pests and insects and ensuring a good harvest, the "Fire and Bug" Festival is one of Goshogawara’s oldest and most traditional. Huge taimatsu (poles made of thatch) are set ablaze before local residents and organizations carry them through the city streets to the festival's climax along the banks of the Iwaki River. Here, a huge fire festival takes place, highlighted by an exciting fireworks display.
Other Tips
Organizers are always looking for volunteers to help make taimatsu and assist with other festival preparations in the weeks leading up to the festival. The majority of the work takes place in the evening in the tall building next to the station, which usually houses Tachineputa floats.
